Carob resinoid gives Lush products a cake-like scent reminiscent of freshly baked goods.
The carob tree is an evergreen native to the Mediterranean but can also be found growing in Asia. Classified as a legume, it belongs to the pea family (Fabaceae) and produces pods that contain up to fifteen seeds. Only when these pods change from green to brown are they then harvested.
The seeds of this sweet pod can be ground to make a powder or used to produce a gum, which can be used as a thickening agent in food. We primarily use carob for its sticky, warm and mouth-watering smell.
Resinoids are extracts from plants that produce a thick, sticky sap or resin. The resin is processed using a solvent to produce a hardened resinoid. Resinoid aromas can vary depending on the plant they come from, though an overall sweet and spicy fragrance unites them. This makes them a common ingredient in perfumery.
